Australia: Fossil Ad Ban calls for a test of Climate Emergency Declarations

“2,326 jurisdictions in 40 countries have declared a climate emergency. Now their actions are being checked, including bans on polluting ads,” writes Fossil Ad Ban in their newsletter on 13 April 2023:

“More than 100 Australian councils, as well as the ACT and South Australia, have declared climate emergencies, but so far only 11 have voted to stop fossil fuel ads and sponsorships. That means at least 89 of them are yet to get the message about the Fossil Ad Ban!”

Climate Emergency UK is scoring councils on whether they have voted to ban high carbon advertising on their land and properties. Fossil Ad Ban contacted Climate Emergency Australia to ask that they do the same.
